Woods falters late in Round 1 at The Open

American Kevin Kisner led the field, shooting 5-under par in his first round

The first round of The Open championship at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland ended Thursday afternoon with very few big names atop the leaderboard.

American Kevin Kisner is alone in first place after Round 1, shooting a 5-under, 66 for his first round.

After Kisner, there's a three-way tie for second place with Erik Van Rooyen, Tony Finau, and Zander Lombard all shooting 4-under par. Tied for fifth place at 3-under par are Brendan Steele, Brandon Stone, and Ryan Moore.

Some big names that aren't quite at the top of the leaderoard are Rory McIlroy at 2-under par, Jordan Spieth at 1-over par, and Tiger Woods was even on the day.

Woods was 2-under par going into the back-nine, but some late bogies pulled him back to even par.

The course at Cournistie was insanely dry on Thursday with some shots rolling much longer on the fairways than normal. Serigo Garcia, at one point, hit a drive that rolled over 100 yards, straight through the fairway and into a creek in front of the green.

The Open will continue Friday morning with Woods tees off at 5:20 a.m. EST. Other golfers like Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler will tee off at about 10 a.m.
