With second-year quarterbacks, new weapons on offense, and a young, talented defensive core, the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets could be in for a very even AFC East battle this Sunday in the Meadowlands.

Both sides of the ball present crucial matchups that could be the difference between winning and losing.

What are the matchups that fans believe could be the most important for the Bills to get a win over New York in the season opener?

Wednesday's late night discussion included many when the Bills offense takes on the Jets defense, and vice-versa.

When the Bills are on offense:

The Jets' secondary is likely the weakest unit of their defense. In their debuts with the Bills, John Brown and Cole Beasley could be crucial in a potential win.

Josh Allen and the Bills' interior offensive line going up against Jets defensive coordinator Greg Williams and his defensive tackle pairing of Leonard Williams and Quinnen Williams is a good one to keep an eye on.

If the Williams brothers (not actually brothers) can disrupt the middle of the pocket, Allen will need to make things happen with his mobility.

When the Bills are on defense:

Tre'Davious White covering Robby Anderson should be a fun matchup to watch. Top corner against top wideout. Sam Darnold and Anderson started to click at the end of the 2018 season, connecting on three touchdowns in the final four games.

Bell posses the biggest threat to the Bills defense. His elite pass-catching ability as a running back will keep Tremaine Edmunds busy.

Author's choice:

On offense, the battle in the trenches will be key. If Mitch Morse and company can hold off the Williams duo, Allen should be able to find success against the Jets cornerbacks.

As for the defense, stopping Bell should be top priority. With White, Jordan Poyer, and Micah Hyde in the secondary, it is hard to see any Jets wide receiver abusing this defense. Bell on the other hand, has wrecked games against the Bills before.
